ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS - ISO 14001

This standard for environmental management is probably the most well known environmental standard in the world.

The intention of ISO 14001 is to provide a framework for an overall, strategic approach to your organization's environmental policy, plans and actions.

An organisation meeting the requirements of ISO 14001 is able to control the environmental impact of its activities and improve its environmental performance continually. This is done by setting environmental objectives and targets but ISO 14001 does not specify levels of environmental performance.

The standard can to be implemented by a wide variety of organisations. A commitment to compliance with applicable environmental legislation and regulations is required, along with a commitment to continuous improvement - for which the environmental management system provides the framework.

You can obtain certification by following the scheme process describe in the right-hand column.

N.B. You must ensure that this certification scheme is suitable for your organisation and meets the needs of your clients. To help determine the type of certification you require. Refer to the Certification Type Decision Table or contact Sovereign Certification for guidance.

Sovereign Certification Limited will guide you through the whole process. For guidance in documenting your quality management system refer to the ISO 14001 Guidance Page

NB: All new assessment and certification must now be done to the newest version of the standard ISO 14001: 2004
